4. Describe similarities and/or differences in compartmentalization between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. 5. Sketch the proc

ess of endosymbiosis and explain the evidence that supports the endosymbiotic theory behind the origin of mitochondria and chloroplasts 6. Explain how mitochondria are able to reproduce at their own pace even though they reside inside eukaryotic cells. 7. Describe the relationships that both mitochondria and chloroplasts have with their host cells.

Answer:

Eukaryotes:

-Organisms with a well defined nucleus are known as eukaryotes. such cells are called as eukaryotic cells.

- Their nucleus is enclosed within the nuclear membrane.

- They do not posses a mitochondria.

- The cell wall is the outer most layer of a eukaryotic cell (only plant cells have a cell wall)

- The cells are divided by a process called mitosis.

Eg: Plants, Animals.

Prokaryotes:

- Organisms without a well defined nucleus are known as prokaryotes. Such cells are called as Prokaryotic cells.

- They lack nuclear membrane.

- Mitochondria, Golgi bodies, chloroplast and lysosomes are absent.

- The genetic material (DNA) is present on the chromosome.

Eg: Every organism coming under the kingdom monera.

Surface area is an important factor in limiting cell growth because
julia-pushkina [17]

Surface area is an important factor in limiting cell growth because

a. the cell can burst if the membrane becomes too large.

b. materials cannot enter the cell if the surface is too large.

c. the cell may become too large to take in enough food and to remove enough wastes.

d. waste products cannot leave the cell if the cell is too small.

Answer:

c. the cell may become too large to take in enough food and to remove enough wastes.

Explanation:

The exchange of substances with surroundings is done by cells by the process of diffusion. The rate of diffusion of substances requires the presence of a higher surface area than volume. As the cells become larger, their surface area is reduced with respect to the volume. Therefore, larger cells can not support the diffusion of substances in and out as required for its proper functioning. If cells are allowed to grow continuously, they will not be able to intake the requires materials such as food and to release the waste outside.

You will need a fork, knife, and a spoon for the "predators" to "catch" the "prey". For the "prey" you will need three different
Yakvenalex [24]

In the simulation, the prey type that will avoid capture the most is the beans while the predator that will succeed in capturing the most prey is the spoon.

What are predator-prey relationships?

Predator-prey relationships are feeding relationships in which one organism kills and eats another organism for food.

The organism that kills the other is called the predator while the organism that is killed is called the prey.

In the simulation, the prey type that will avoid capture the most is the beans since it had the smallest surface area and size.

The predator that will succeed in capturing the most prey is the spoon because of its hollow nature.

How is. Preparing for a space mission similar to planning for a camping trip?
babunello [35]
You should consider how much you will eat, what materials you will use during the trip, how many days you the trip would last, how to budget what you can ideally bring without being overloaded, and what emergency stuff you need to bring, just in case something gets out of hand.
