Watt-hours is a measure of energy, just like kilowatt-hours. How can you convert this to Joules?
satela [25.4K]

Work with your units:

1 watt-hour = 1 (joule/second) · (hour) = 1 (joule-hour / second)

(1 joule-hour/sec) · (3600 sec/hour) = 3600 joules

So 1 watt-hour = 3,600 joules

Why aren’t the Appalachian Mountains still as tall as the Himalayas?
stealth61 [152]

Answer:

mountains are limited in their theoretical height by several processes. First is isostasy: the bigger a mountain gets, the more it weighs down its tectonic plate, so it sinks lower. ... Bottom line: mountains can get taller than Mount Everest in earth gravity, like the Appalachians probably did—but not much taller.

If there is no oxygen in outer space, and, at the same time, oxygen must be present for fire, where does the sun come from?
victus00 [196]

The sun is a huge ball of gas held together by gravity.

It does not burn the way wood does, due to oxygen, but it gets energy by a process called nuclear fusion, where Hydrogen is converted to Helium.

The sun will cease to "burn" when it runs out of Hydrogen, but that has a long way to go.

44. A rescue helicopter is hovering over a person whose boat has sunk. One of the rescuers throws a life preserver straight down
Vladimir [108]

Answer:

18.4 m

Explanation:

(a)

The known variables in this problem are:

u = 1.40 m/s is the initial vertical velocity (we take downward direction as positive direction)

t = 1.8 s is the duration of the fall

a = g = 9.8 m/s^2 is the acceleration due to gravity

(b)

The vertical distance covered by the life preserver is given by

d=ut + \frac{1}{2}at^2

If we substitute all the values listed in part (a), we find

d=(1.40 m/s)(1.8 s)+\frac{1}{2}(9.8 m/s^2)(1.8 s)^2=18.4m
