How does a competitive inhibitor slow enzyme catalysis?
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

By preventing the binding of substrate to active site

Explanation:

Competitive inhibitors exhibit a type of reversible inhibition. These are the substances that bind to the binding site of the substrate on the enzyme, that is the active site.

One the competitive inhibitor is bound to the active site on the enzyme, the substrate cannot bind to it and there is no enzyme-substrate complex formation. Hence, the competitive inhibitor inhibits/slow down the enzyme catalysis by occupying the active site of the enzyme and thereby not allowing the substrate to bind to the enzyme.

Explain the interrelationship between the Elodea plant and paramecia in a pond ecosystem?
choli [55]

The interrelationship between the Elodea plant and paramecia in a pond system is mutualism.

The pond system is a type of an artificial aquatic system that contains organisms (plants and animals) that are regularly maintain.

The Interrelationship between organisms which can occur in an ecosystem include:

  • competition,
  • predation,
  • commensalism,
  • mutualism and
  • parasitism.

Mutualism occurs when two organisms of different species benefits from each other.

The Elodea plant purifies the water through photosynthesis and provides habitat for the paramecia

The paramecia in turn generates carbondioxide through its body surface which is a key element used for photosynthesis by the Elodea plant.

What are the ways in which captive breeding helps protect biodiversity? Check all that apply.
Rudik [331]

I do not know the options, but, follow this criteria and you should be able to finish the exercise:

Usually, animals that are in captivity are endangered animals, with few individuals left. When we captivate them, the risks of them dying (either naturally or by poaching, hunting, contamination, etc) is lower, since we are taking direct care of them.

Hope it helped,
