        x^2 -6x -16=0\\&#10;x^2 -8x +2x-16=0\\&#10;x(x-8)+2(x-8)=0\\&#10;(x+2)(x-8) = 0

Equating factors against 0,

1.    (x+2)=0\\&#10;x=-2

2.     (x-8)=0\\&#10;x=8

As the value of input can not be negative, the value of x is 8.

Hence, the value of x is 8.
