A sociologist is studying trends in childbearing. He asks expectant parents in different parts of the country about the number o

f children in their family of origin and the total number of children they plan to have. On an average day of data collection, he gets the results shown in the first three columns of the following table. In this table, fill in the missing values in the XY column, and then calculate ΣXY.

Based on the information given, it should be noted that the value of ΣX is 15 while the value of ΣXY is 34.

How to compute the values.

From the table, the following can be depicted:

 • X = Children in family of origin.
 • Y = Number of planned children
 • XY = Product of X and Y.

Therefore, the value of ΣX will be:

= 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 4 = 15

ΣY = 3 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 11

The value of ΣXY will be:

= 9 + 3 + 6 + 4 + 12 = 34

Airida [17]

Answer:

the ladder reaches up to 9.75 ft. high

Step-by-step explanation:

a^2+b^2=c^2

plug in the numbers

a^2+49=144

then subtract 49 from 144

a^2=95

then sq 95

a=9.75

The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 5. If the number is multiplied by 3, the result is 42. Write and solve a system o
Elenna [48]
A two digit number has a tens digit and a ones digit.
Let's say x = tens digit and y = ones digit

"The sum of the digits is 5"
x + y = 5

The next phrase is "the number multiplied by 3 is 42" but we need to represent the number using the digits. So they need to be multiplied first by their place value and added together. [Example: 34 = 3(10) + 4(1)]

The number is: 10x + y
3(10x + y) = 42

The system of equations: (two equations for two unknowns)
x + y = 5
30x + 3y = 42

Then you can use substitution or elimination to combine and solve.
I'll use elimination, multiply the entire top equation by -3 and add the equations together. y will cancel out

-3x - 3y = -15
30x + 3y = 42
------------------
27x + 0 = 27
x = 1

then plug x = 1 into either equation to find y

1 + y = 5
y = 4

remember the x and y represent digits so the number xy is 14

Solve for x ....... thanks !
Len [333]
If we can match teh bases we can solve
because if x=x and xᵃ=xᵇ, we can conclude that a=b

16=2⁴
32=2⁵
rememeber that (x^m)^n=x^{mn}

16^{3x+2}=32^{-2x-7}
(2^4)^{3x+2}=(2^5)^{-2x-7}
2^{4(3x+2)}=2^{5(-2x-7)}
2=2 so we conclude that 4(3x+2)=5(-2x-7)

4(3x+2)=5(-2x-7)
expand/distribute
12x+8=-10x-35
add 10x both sides
22x+8=-35
minus 8 both sides
22x=-43
divide both sides by 22
x=-43/22
