Solve the system of equations algebraically. Show all of your steps
Katyanochek1 [597]
I am going to explain this using the substitution method, considering it appears to be the best in this situation.

We know (from the bottom equation) that y can equal 3x+20. Using this knowledge, we substitute the y in the top equation for 3x+20. Now, we have an equation that looks like this:

3x+20=x^2+2x

Now we need to move x to one side and then do some radicals (square roots).
Subtract the 2x on the right (since it is smaller, negatives = NONONO), which will give you

x+20=x^2

Now, we take the square root of both sides to get

rad(x+20)=x

Now we have to simplify. 20 doesn't have a square root, but 4 goes into 20, and 4 has a square root of 2. This now becomes

2rad(x+5)

This doesn't simplify any further... we have a problem... no way to isolate x as far as my knowledge goes... Sorry, can't help you any further than that, but another person or your teacher might be able to. R.I.P...

If you're using the app, try seeing this answer through your browser:  brainly.com/question/2752942

_______________

Solve the equation:

\mathsf{\dfrac{8}{x-5}-\dfrac{9}{x-4}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}\qquad\qquad(x\ne 5~and~x\ne 4)}

Reduce the fractions at the left side so that they have the same denominator:

\mathsf{\dfrac{8(x-4)}{(x-5)(x-4)}-\dfrac{9(x-5)}{(x-4)(x-5)}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32}{x^2-4x-5x+20}-\dfrac{9x-45}{x^2-4x-5x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32}{x^2-9x+20}-\dfrac{9x-45}{x^2-9x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}\\\\\\
\mathsf{\dfrac{8x-32-(9x-45)}{x^2-9x+20}=\dfrac{5}{x^2-9x+20}}

Numerators must be equal:

\mathsf{8x-32-(9x-45)=5}\\\\
\mathsf{8x-32-9x+45=5}\\\\
\mathsf{8x-9x=5+32-45}\\\\
\mathsf{-x=-8}\\\\
\mathsf{x=8}\quad\longleftarrow\quad\textsf{this is the solution.}

I hope this helps. =)

Mickey works in a square shaped office. The area of his office is 110.25 ft2. What is the length of one side of Mickey’s office?
krek1111 [17]

Answer: A formula that can be used to find the answer is (x Squared = 110.25) So (x times x = 110.25) 10.5 is the length of one side because 10.5 squared = 110.25.

Answer is 10.5
