a garden table and a bench cost $1000 combined. The cost of the garden table is three times the cost of the bench. What is the cost of the bench?

i think the table would cost 750 while the bench costs 250. 3x250= 750 therefore the table costs 3 times more than the bench yet both the bench and table together would add up to 1000.
