So there would be two equations

120=x+y

and

4850=45x+35y

We can now solve for each variable

y=120-x

plug it into the second equation...

4850=45x+35(120-x)

4850=45x+4200-35x

650=10x

x=65

Now plug in X

y=120-65

y=55

They are carrying 65 big boxes and 55 small boxes.

Check

---------

120=y+x

120=55+65

120=120

If a gardner plants beans in 1/8 of a plot and tomatoes in 1/6 of a plot, what fraction of the garden is left for other crops
JulsSmile [24]

You simply have to sum the two fraction together to get the total amount of occupied plot. To do so, multiply both numerator and denominator of each fration by the same number, so that they end up having the same denominator.

You can multiply both numerator and denominator of 1/8 by 3 to get 3/24. Similarly, you can multiply both numerator and denominator of 1/6 by 4 to get 4/24.

Now we can easily sum the two fractions together:

\dfrac{1}{8}+\dfrac{1}{6}=\dfrac{3}{24}+\dfrac{4}{24} = \dfrac{7}{24}

So, if 7 parts out of 24 are occupied, it means that there are 24-7=17 parts left for other crops. So, the answer is 17/24.

Write the slop-intercept form of the equation of each line. Please show your work.
solmaris [256]
Slope intercept form is : y = mx + b
as shown the line passes through (0,-3) so the y intercept is -3
The line now is y= mx - 3
the line passes through (4,-2) so substitute x=4, y = -2 to y=mx - 3, we have:
-2 = 4m -3 so m= 1/4

Ans: y = 1/4x -3
