If f(x) = √x and g(x) = 7x + b, then

f(g(x)) = f(7x + b) = √(7x + b)

If the plot of f(g(x)) passes through (4, 6), then

f(g(4)) = √(7•4 + b) = √(28 + b) = 6

Solve for b :

√(28 + b) = 6

(√(28 + b))² = 6²

28 + b = 36

b = 36 - 28

b = 8

Tiffany is solving an equation where both sides are quadratic expressions. She sets each quadratic equation equal to y and graph
Lapatulllka [165]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

There are 3 possibilities for the graph as shown in the figure.

(a) having zero intersection

(b) having one intersection point (touching point)

(c) having two intersection points.

So, the greatest possible number of intersections for these graphs is 2 as shown in figure (c).

A certain amount of money is shared in a ratio 2:3:9. If the difference between the first and second shares is $40, then the amo
Alex787 [66]

Answer:

The amount of money shared is 360

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that A certain amount of money is shared in a ratio 2:3:9.

Let x be the ratio

So, Shares of amount = 2x,3x and 9x

We are given that the difference between the first and second shares is $40

\Rightarrow 3x-2x=40

x=40

So, Shares are :

2x=2(40)=80

3x=3(40)=120

4x=4(40)=160

So,Total amount = 80+120+160=360

Hence the amount of money shared is 360

A swimming pool is open for 7 1/2 hours a day. The pool keeps one life guard on duty at a time, and each life guard shift is 1 1
melisa1 [442]

There are 5 shifts per day

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that, A swimming pool is open for 7\frac{1}{2} hours a day

The pool keeps one life guard on duty at a time

Each life guard shift is 1\frac{1}{2} hours long

<em><u>To find: Number of shifts per day</u></em>

From given,

\text{ Number of hours } =7\frac{1}{2} = \frac{2 \times 7 + 1}{2} = \frac{15}{2}

\text{Each life guard shift }= 1\frac{1}{2} = \frac{3}{2} \text{ hours }

Therefore, number of shifts per day is found by dividing total number of hours by hours of each life guard shift

\text{Number of shifts per day } = \frac{\text{Total number of hours}}{\text{each life guard shift }}

Substituting the values we get,

\text{Number of shifts per day } = \frac{\frac{15}{2}}{\frac{3}{2}}\\\\\text{Number of shifts per day } = \frac{15}{2} \times \frac{2}{3}\\\\\text{Number of shifts per day } = 5

Thus there are 5 shifts per day
