Answer:

Explanation:

Nucleic acids are the organic materials present in all organisms in the form of DNA or RNA. These nucleic acids are formed by the combination of nitrogenous bases, sugar molecules and the phosphate groups that are linked by different bonds in a series of sequences. The DNA structure defines the basic genetic makeup of our body.

A mutant strain of yeast is able to produce 2 ATP for each glucose molecule digested in the absence of oxygen. What makes this s
Free_Kalibri [48]

Answer:

Explanation:

Normally, under anaerobic condition in yeast, pyruvate produced from glycolysis leads to the production of ethanol as shown below.

pyruvate ⇒ acetaldehyde + NADH ⇒ ethanol + NAD

The pyruvate is converted to acetaldehyde by the enzyme, pyruvate decarboxylase. It should be NOTED that carbon dioxide is released in this step. The acetaldehyde produced in the "first step" is then converted to ethanol by the enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase. It must be noted from the above that the steps are irreversible.

If a mutated strain of yeast is unique because it does not produce alcohol and lactic acid (which is referred to as toxic acid in the question); thus having a high level of pyruvate because of the presence of a novel enzyme. The function of this novel enzyme will most likely be the conversion of acetaldehyde in the presence of carbondioxide back to pyruvate; thus making that step reversible. This could be a possible explanation for the high level of pyruvate present in the yeast.

Predict the dominant type of bonding by considering electronegativity.
Vlad1618 [11]
If the atoms that are bonding have identical electronegativities, then it's a completely nonpolar covalent bond. This doesn't happen in the real world unless the two atoms are of the same element. In a practical sense, any two elements with an electronegativity difference less than 0.3 is considered to be nonpolar covalent.
As the difference between the atoms increases, the covalent bond becomes increasingly polar. At a polarity difference of 1.7 (this changes depending on who you ask) we consider it no longer to be a covalent bond and to be the electrostatic interactions characteristic in an ionic compound.
Just so you know, you shouldn't take these values as exact. ALL interactions between adjacent atoms involve some sharing of electrons, no matter how big the difference in electronegativity. Sure, you wouldn't expect much sharing in KF, but there's a little sharing of electrons anyway. There's certainly no big cutoff that happens at a difference of 1.7 Pauling Electronegativity units.

Cardiac muscle cells are striated like skeletal muscles but their contractions are
professor190 [17]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

Cardiac muscle cells appear striated. However, they are involuntary, unlike skeletal muscle cells, because they contract outside of human control. For example, you do not have to think about contracting your heart muscles as the already contract for you. On the other hand, skeletal muscle cells are controlled by humans as they decide which body movement to perform, such as walking or pointing.
