The function for the amount saved if they purchase a used drone rather than a new drone from Jim's store is f(x) = 0.45x

He sells used drones at 70% of the price (x).

So, the selling price of a used drone is:

\mathbf{Used = 70\% \times x}

Express percentage as decimal

\mathbf{Used = 0.7 \times x}

\mathbf{Used = 0.7x}

Also, he sells new drones at 15% more of the price (x).

So, the selling price of a new drone is:

\mathbf{New= (1 + 15\%) \times x}

Express percentage as decimal

\mathbf{New= (1 + 0.15) \times x}

\mathbf{New= 1.15 \times x}

\mathbf{New= 1.15x}

The amount saved is the difference between the prices of the drones.

So, we have:

\mathbf{Saved =New - Old}

This gives

\mathbf{Saved =1.15x- 0.7x}

Subtract

\mathbf{Saved =0.45x}

Express as a function

\mathbf{f(x) = 0.45x}

Hence, the function for the amount saved is f(x) = 0.45x

<h3>Answer: 10^(1/2)</h3>

When we use an exponent of 1/2, it is the same as a square root. The more general rule is

\sqrt{x} = x^{1/2}

In this case, we plug in x = 10.

The use of a fractional exponent is handy when you want to deal with things like cube roots on a calculator. This is because

\sqrt[3]{x} = x^{1/3}

Many calculators don't have a button labeled \sqrt[3]{} but they have the button x^y to allow fractional exponents.

A student is solving the equation 4^x–1 = 64^x+3.
Doss [256]
The answer is <span>x - 1 = 3x + 9

All steps are:
</span>Step 1: 4ˣ⁻¹ = 64ˣ⁺³<span>
Step 2: 4</span>ˣ⁻¹ = (4³)ˣ⁺³ <span>
Step 3: 4</span>ˣ⁻¹ = 4³ˣ⁺⁹
Step 4: x - 1 = 3x + 9
Step 5: x - 3x = 1 + 9
Step 6: -2x = 10
Step 7: x = 10/-2
Step 8: x = -5

AVprozaik [17]

If they drove a total of 5,300 miles in 2 days, and on the second day they drove 10 more miles then the 1st day.

5,300 ÷ 2 = 2,650

they drove 10 miles less on the first day

2,650 - 10 = 2,640

They drove 2,640 miles on the first day.

Hope this helps. :)
