Millions of years ago, the ancestors of giraffes had short necks and used to eat leaves from the bushes on the ground. A genetic

mutation caused one giraffe's neck to be taller. This long-necked giraffe was able to eat leaves that were higher up on trees. This gave it an advantage as it was able to access more food than other giraffes. Over millions of years, all of the giraffes became long-necked. Which type of environmental factor caused this mutation to be inherited

The evolution of giraffe.

The giraffe is a long necked animal that is found in most parts of the countries nd is herbivorous animal. It has a neck that is evolved to reach the tallest parts of the trees. The millions of years ago the ancestors of the giraffe family sed to at the grass leaves on the ground.

Thus the answer is adaptation and changing preferences.

 • The long neck of the giraffe is a sign of the genetic evolution and a sign of adaptation of the spices towards the changing environment.
 • The long neck of the giraffes is due to their adaptation. Over the millions of years the environmental factors as search for food, survival and changes in body size.
 • Thus the giraffes changed due to the survival of the fittest.

This is an example of which type of short-term human-induced environmental change?
ANTONII [103]

Answer: Option B

Explanation:

The non sustainable harvesting can be defined as the short term human induced environmental change as it is limited only upto the next harvesting season.

The sustainable harvesting can be opted in the next season as it can be harvested in such a way that it is used by the correct generation and saved for the future generation by storing it.

So, it is a short term human induced environmental change.

The molecular clock has limited usefulness for estimating divergence times among species in part due to the saturation of DNA se
Greeley [361]

Answer:

In highly diverged lineages, the substitutions process will occur at sites that have been substituted previously.

Explanation:

Molecular clock uses the mutation rate to reduce the time in prehistory when the life forms are diverged. The molecular clock uses the sequence of amino acids and nucleotide sequence for the DNA.

This clock does not measure any time but the number of mutations, and other changes over certain time. Sometimes its useful property might be limited due to the highly diverged lineages.

A segment of a DNA molecule has the base sequence ATGAAC. Write a shorthand structure for this segment and for its complementary
Zanzabum

Answer: See attached picture.

Explanation:

DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid is the name for the molecule that contains the genetic information in all living things. This molecule consists of two strands that wind around each other to form a double helix structure.

The basic unit of nucleic acids are called nucleotides, which are organic molecules formed by the covalent bonding of a nucleoside (a pentose which is a type of sugar and a nitrogenous base) and a phosphate group. So each nucleotide is made up of a pentose sugar called deoxyribose, a nitrogenous base which can be adenine (A), thymine (T), cytosine (C) or guanine (G) and a phosphate group.

What distinguishes one polynucleotide from another is the nitrogenous base, and thus the sequence of DNA is specified by naming only the sequence of its bases. The sequential arrangement of these four bases along the chain is what encodes the genetic information, following the following criterion of complementarity: A-T and G-C. So the sequence of these bases along the chain is what encodes the instructions for forming proteins and RNA molecules. In living organisms, DNA occurs as a double strand of nucleotides, in which the two strands are linked together by connections called hydrogen bridges.

The chemical convention of naming the carbon atoms in the pentose nucleotide pentose numerically confers the names 5' end and 3' end ("five prime end" and "three prime end" respectively). The 5'-end designates the end of a DNA strand that coincides with the phosphate group of the fifth carbon of the respective terminal deoxyribose. A phosphate group attached to the 5'-end allows the ligation of two nucleotides; for example, the covalent bonding of the 5'-phosphate group to the 3'-hydroxyl group of another nucleotide, to form a phosphodiester bond.
