2x+5-x=3 (2×-3) solve each equation
umka21 [38]
The answer is x =14/5

2x+5-x=3 (2×-3)

distribute the 3.
2x + 5 -x = 6x -9

Combine like terms on the left.
x +5 = 6x -9

Subtract the 6x term from both sides.
-5x + 5 = -9

Subtract the 5 to both sides.
-5x = -14

Divide both sides by -5.
x = 14/5

I will give you brainliest!!!! Use substitution method to solve the system of equations. y=6x-5 y=x+5
solong [7]

Answer:

(2,7)

Step-by-step explanation:

y=6x-5

y=x+5

Since they are both equal to y, set them equal to each other

6x-5 = x+5

Subtract x from each side

6x-x-5 = x+5-x

5x-5 = 5

Add 5 to each side

5x-5 +5 = 5+5

5x=10

Divide by 5

5x/5 = 10/5

x=2

y = x+5

y = 2+5

y =7

I'm really stuck on this math problem. I never learned this in school. Can someone please help me out? Thank you
romanna [79]
Hehe, these are fun to do. There are two ways to do this kind of problem. You can use the pythagorean theorem or we can use the distance formula.
Distance formula:
d= \sqrt{(x2-x1)^2+(y2-y1)^2}

Pythagorean Theorem:
a^2+b^2=c^2

Distance formula is better if you're finding distance between two coordinates. The Pythagorean Theorem only really works for independent values. If I had 2 sides of a triangle, and I needed to find the third, I'd use this equation to find it. In this case, we'll use the distance formula.

I'll work the first one out for you:
 x1   y1     x2  y2
(3,   2) & (7,   4)

d= \sqrt{(7-3)^2+(4-2)^2}
                           v
d= \sqrt{(4)^2+(2)^2}
                           v
d= \sqrt{(16+4}
                           v
d= \sqrt{20}

There's your answer!
