b) 5 miles a day

? miles 18 days

18×5= 90 miles

140 miles - 90 miles = 50 miles

find x. assume that segments that appear tangent are tangent. please help need answer and how to do it.
Pavlova-9 [17]
Triangle ABC is a right triangle, meaning we can use the Pythagorean Theorem to find x.
The formula for the Pythagorean Theorem is:
a =  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  +  {c}^{2} }
where a is the hypotenuse, and b and c are the legs.
In this problem, we have the vertical leg as 16, the horizontal leg as x, and the hypotenuse as 20. Therefore, we can say that
a = 20 \\ b = 16 \\ c = x
Therefore, we can plug into the formula to find x:a =  \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  +  {x}^{2} }  \\  {a}^{2}  =  { \sqrt{ {b}^{2}  +  {x}^{2} } }^{2}  \\  {a}^{2}  =  {b}^{2}  +  {x}^{2}  \\  {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}  =  {x}^{2}
We first change the variable c to x and square both sides of the equation. Then we subtract b^2 from both sides.
{x}^{2}  =  {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2}  \\  \sqrt{ {x}^{2} }  =  \sqrt{ {a}^{2}  -  {b}^{2} }  \\ x =  \sqrt{ {a}^{2} -  {b}^{2}  }
We square root each side to find the variable answer for x. Then we plug in the numbers:x =  \sqrt{ {(20)}^{2} -  {(16)}^{2}  }  \\ x =  \sqrt{400 - 256}  \\ x =  \sqrt{144}  \\ x = 12
We find that x = 12. The answer is A. 12.

Fine the area of a circle with a radius of 7 in. Write the formula, substitute, solve.
bija089 [108]

Formula: A=(pi)r^2

Substitution: A=3.14(7^2)

                     A=3.14(49)

Solve: A=153.86 in^2

*I personally like to use the pi sign on my calculator to multiply the radius squared by, but my keyboard did not have a pi sign.  Usually, the pi sign is more exact.  If you used the pi sign, your answer would be 153.94 inches^2.  Hope this helps!

The point (3,-4) is on the terminal side of an angle 0. What is cos 0?

Answer:

  C.  3/5

Step-by-step explanation:

The distance from the origin to the given point is ...

  d = √(3² +(-4)²) = √(9+16) = 5

The cosine of the angle is the ratio of the x-coordinate to this value:

  cos(θ) = x/d

  cos(θ) = 3/5
