Republicanism is the idea that citizens stay informed about politics and participate in the process. In a republican government, voting citizens make their voices heard at the polls. Passed by Congress February 26, 1869, and ratified February 3, 1870, <em>the 15th amendment </em>granted African American men the right to vote. This amendment provided that all male citizens, regardless of their race, must receive equal treatment under the law and not be deprived of their rights without due process. the <em>19th amendment</em> guarantees all American women the right to vote. Achieving this milestone required a lengthy and difficult struggle; victory took decades of agitation and protest. (there is 2 amendment that expanded voting rights and how it changed voting)
