Here is a diary entry (feel free to edit) for your assignment

My role:  Nurse for the Union army  (a typical day) - 1862

Morning & Afternoon:

*I am stationed in the Union Armory Hospital in Washington, DC

* I am bombarded by soldiers, from 6 am, on, coming into the hospital, wounded

*Even as a seasoned nurse, I am astounded by all the blood, sometimes, and the carnage

*Sometimes, I see amputated limbs, and I feel sick

*The men are, largely, in good spirits, as they battle the enemy, the Confederate, but are they the enemy?

*Are we one nation, I often wonder?

*Even though I hate slavery, I still feel for the other side, at times

*The Union men that come in, though, are good men, and we often strike up a nice friendship

*They sacrifice so much, and I try to use my nursing skills and people skills tp help them

*I hate to see people die in front of me, with me unable to prevent them all, but we do save many lives

Night:

*I finally manage to drift away, at home, after another long, trying day

*I have seen so much blood and sadness, but also so much hope and progress

*I do love being a nurse, although tough and emotionally taxing as it is, sometimes

*I feel like I am making a difference in these mens' lives, men that are fighting for the Union
