Step-by-step explanation:

let's aim for the slope intercept form of the line equation :

y = ax +b

a is the slope, b is the y intercept (the y value when x = 0).

the slope of a line is the ratio "y coordinate change / x coordinate change" when going from one point to another on the line.

I cannot draw here, but you know, what the slope triangle means : you draw a vertical line straight down from (2, 150) and a straight horizontal line left from (4, 130). where these lines cross, you have the third point of that triangle.

anyway, we don't need the drawn triangle to find the coordinate changes to calculate the slope.

between these 2 points

x changes by +2 (from 2 to 4)

y changes by -20 (from 150 to 130)

so, the slope is -20/+2 = -10

that brings the generic equation to

y = -10x + b

for b we simply use the coordinates of one of the points (I go for (2, 150)) and solve for b :

150 = -10×2 + b = -20 + b

b = 170

so, the full line equation is

y = -10x + 170

Write an equation of a line in slope-intercept form with the given slope and y- intercept
Aleks04 [339]

Answer:

y=1/4x+3

Step-by-step explanation:

Slope intercept form is written as (y=mx+b)

To define those variables:

- m is the slope

- b is the y-intercept

We have been given both the slope, and the y intercept, therefore just plug in the numbers into the form:

y=1/4x+3

At 107°F, a certain insect chirps at a rate of 92 times per minute, and at 113°F, they chirp 116 times per minute. Write an equa
dsp73

Answer:

The equation in slope-intercept form that represents the situation is y=0.25*x + 84 where y represents the temperature in ° F and x the number of chirps per minute.

Step-by-step explanation:

A linear equation can be expressed in the form y=m*x + b. In this equation, x and y are coordinates of a point, m is the slope and b is the y coordinate of the y-intercept. Since this equation describes a line in terms of its slope and its y-intercept, this equation is said to be in its slope-intercept form.

When there are two points of a line (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), the slope is determined by the quotient between the difference of the ordinate of these two points and the difference of the abscissa of the same points. This is:

m=\frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}

Having a point on the line, you can substitute the values of m, x and y in the equation y = mx + b and thus find b.

In this case:

 • (x1, y1): (92, 107)
 • (x2, y2): (116, 113)

So:

m=\frac{113-107}{116-92}

m= 0.25

substituting the values of m, x1 and y1 in the equation y = mx + b you have:

107= 0.25*92 + b

107 - 0.25*92= b

84=b

The equation in slope-intercept form that represents the situation is y=0.25*x + 84 where y represents the temperature in ° F and x the number of chirps per minute.

The sum is two numbers is 65. The difference of the two numbers is 17. Write systems of equations and find two numbers
kobusy [5.1K]

Answer:

41 and 24

Step-by-step explanation:

x+y=65 -------(A)

x-y=17 -------- (B)

(A)+(B)

(x+y)+(x-y)=65+17

2x=82

x=41

(B)===>

41-y=17

y=41-17

y=24
