What is the area of a sector with a central angle of (2pi/3) radians and a diameter of 12 in?
Stels [109]

Answer:

The area of the sector is 37.68\ in^{2}

Step-by-step explanation:

step 1

Find the area of the circle

The area of the circle is equal to

A=\pi r^{2}

we have

r=12/2=6\ in ----> the radius is half the diameter

substitute

A=(3.14)(6)^{2}

A=113.04\ in^{2}

step 2

Find the area of a sector with a central angle of (2pi/3)

Remember that

The area of 113.04\ in^{2} subtends a central angle of 2\pi \ radians

so

by proportion

Let

x----> the area of the sector

\frac{2\pi}{113.04}=\frac{(2\pi/3)}{x}\\ \\x=113.04*(2\pi/3)/(2\pi)\\ \\x=37.68\ in^{2}

A)<br> A coach drives 360 miles at a speed of 60 mph.<br> How long does the journey take?
netineya [11]

Answer:

6hrs

Step-by-step explanation:

Speed = distance/time

Given

Speed = 60mph and

Distance = 360 miles

Therefore

60 = 360/time

Cross multiply

time x 60 = 360

Divide both sides by 60

time x 60/60 = 360/60

time = 6 hrs

The task I need explaining is: how to show that an estimate of the mean time spent on homework is 64.8 minutes. Thanks!
xenn [34]
It's just an estimate.  There's no telling how close it is.

To estimate using just the information in the table,
ASSUME that the average of all the students in each
slot is the average time of that slot.

I know that's confusing.  I can't think of a better way to say it,
so here are two examples of what I mean.  Look at the table:

-- 6 students said that they spent between 0 and 30 minutes.
   ASSUME that those 6 students averaged 15 minutes each.

-- 21 students said that they spent between 60 and 90 minutes.
   ASSUME that those 21 students averaged 75 minutes each.

So, when you add up the times for all 50 students, you'll have

 (6 x 15 min) + (14 x 45 min) + (21 x 75min) + (9 x 105 min) =

When you total up all those times, divide it by 50 to estimate
the average per student.

Remember ... it's only an estimate.
If the first group had 1 student that spent 2 minutes, and
the other 5 of them spent 29 minutes, then it won't work.
But you'll never know.
