Mathematically we want to split it up into 100 parts that are equal. Then count 40 out of it. We will use 300 as in we had 300 mnm's or something. For that you would select 40 or in other words 40 * 3 = 120.
\frac{40}{100} * 300 = 120 \ \textgreater \   \frac{40/20}{100/20} =  \frac{2}{5}

Write the equation of the line that passes through the point (6, -2) and is perpendicular to the line
jolli1 [7]

Answer:

y = - 3x + 16

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a line in slope- intercept form is

y = mx + c ( m is the slope and c the y- intercept )

y = \frac{1}{3} x + 8 ← is in slope- intercept form

with slope m = \frac{1}{3}

Given a line with slope m then the slope of a line perpendicular to it is

m_{perpendicular} = - \frac{1}{m} = - \frac{1}{\frac{1}{3} } = - 3, so

y = - 3x + c ← is the partial equation of the perpendicular line

To find c substitute (6, - 2) into the partial equation

- 2 = - 18 + c ⇒ c = - 2 + 18 = 16

y = - 3x + 16 ← equation of perpendicular line
