It depends, because if you think of it, the soldiers were in need of being taken care of due to the harsh environment and impossible work they had to do. Although, it didn’t seem fair to the colonists to continuously pay taxes AND support men with high standards.

However, even with the coming of agriculture, the still hunted and gathered as it was an important aspect of their life.
