I'd tell Jim's mother and father that there are many medications that can be prescribed to schizophrenics such as Jim. Thorazine isn't his only option, there are a variety of Anti-Psychotic medications that his psychiatrist can prescribe to him. When it comes to any medication that involves mental health treatment its trial and error until his psychiatrist can prescribe him what's just right. All medications have Negative effect that's a given but not all are as severe as the other. for example Jim may be prescribed one medication lets say he's prescribed Saphris and gains severe weight. His psychiatrist can switch out the Saphris for Abilify. If the Abilify doesn't give him that problem of gaining weight and Jim has little to moderate side effects he'll stay on that medication. ^^ Listed medications for schizophrenia down below.
