It would be y over x
but the equation would be y=y/x times x.

that would make much more sense if you put the time of dive as a and b as the depth of submarine.

it would be b=y/x*a

Sophie [7]

Given :

Emily sells erasers for $2 per package and pencils for $5 per package. she sells 220 total packages and earns $695.

To Find :

The number of packages of erasers and pencils that were sold .

Solution :

Let, number of erasers are x and pencils are y.

So, x + y = 220    ....1

Also, 2x + 5y = 695   ....2

Solving equation 1 and 2, we get :

2(220-y)+5y = 695\\\\440 - 2y + 5y = 695\\\\3y = 255\\\\y=85

x = 220 - 85 = 135

Therefore, the number of packages of erasers and pencils that were sold are 135 and 85 respectively.

Hence, this is the required solution.

How do you do this??
dmitriy555 [2]
You have to find the proportion before continuing, so you multiply the numbers you already have, which is 24, and then move on, I'm sorry if this is wrong, but I think that's how its done

There were 567 people at a concert when a band started playing. After each song, only one-third of the people stayed to hear the
Solnce55 [7]
To write the function correctly, it is important to assign variables correctly and understand the situation of the problem clearly. For this, we let y the number of people and x as the number of songs played.

At x = 0   y = 567
at x = 1   y = 567 - 567(1/3)
at x = 2   y = 567 - 567(1/3)(1/3)
at x = 3   y = 567 - 567(1/3)(1/3)(1/3)

Therefore, the number of people left after x songs would be represented by the equation:

y = 567 - 567(1/3)x
y = 567 ( 1- x/3 )
