A consumer advocacy group tested the "on-air" lifetimes a random sample of 241 cell phone batteries. The mean lifetime was 3.2 h
snow_tiger [21]

Using the Empirical Rule, it is found that 229 batteries have lifetimes between 3.0 hours and 3.4 hours.

--------------------------

By the Empirical Rule, in a normal variable: 68% of the measures are within 1 standard deviation of the mean, 95% are within 2 and 99.7% are within 3.

--------------------------

 • Mean of 3.2 hours with a standard deviation of 0.2 hours.

3 = 3.2 - 2(0.1)

3.4 = 3.2 + 2(0.1)

 • Thus, between 3 and 3.4 hours is within 2 standard deviations of the mean, which is 95%.
 • Out of 241 batteries: 0.95(241) = 229

229 batteries have lifetimes between 3.0 hours and 3.4 hours.

2(3x + 5) = 22
what is X?
grandymaker [24]
First divide both sides by 2 so that we can get rid of the parentheses, so we get
(3x + 5) = 11
now subtract 5 from both sides
3x = 6
then finally we want x alone so we'll divide both sides by 3 and get our final answer!
x = 2

How do I solve this?? I'm lost
Alekssandra [29.7K]
Your insight that the function values differ by 5 every time is very important. So your f(x) will contain 5x as a term. You have to find a constant to add or subtract to make sure f(1)=-2.

f(x) = 5x-7 does the job.

Answer:

This would be the commutative property because in either order the sum will always be the same.

Can somebody help me with more line segment problems?
Nikolay [14]

Now I am not sure what length you're supposed to find for problem 9, but x = 3.3 i think.

10.)

(14+x)+(x+21) = 13

2x+35=13

2x = -22

x = -11

FE = -11 + 14 = 3 units

11.)

10 + 2x - 10 = 3x - 8

2x = 3x - 8

-x = -8

x = 8

10 + 2(8) -10 = 16 units
