Answer:

\sf x > -\dfrac{2}{3}

Explanation:

\rightarrow \sf -3\left(x-\dfrac{4}{3}\right) < 6

<u>distribute inside parenthesis</u>

\sf \rightarrow 3x-4 > -6

<u>change sides</u>

\sf \rightarrow 3x > -6 + 4

<u>simplify</u>

\sf \rightarrow 3x > -2

<u>divide both sides by 3</u>

\sf \rightarrow x > -\dfrac{2}{3}

Hello!

There are two ways to address this problem. The most efficient way is to solve for u. Another way is to substitute the values from the first column of the table into the given equation, 1 - 5u > -44, solve, and then determine if the side of the left is greater than the right side.

Solving for u:

1 - 5u > -44 (subtract 1 from both sides)

-5u > -45 (divide both sides by -5)

u < 9

Notice that the inequality sign is flipped. If you divide by a negative number, the inequality sign has to flip the other way. < → >, > → <, ≤ → ≥, or ≥ → ≤.

Since u is less than 9, any numbers less than 9 make this equation true.

1. 10 < 9, this is not a solution.

2. 9 < 9, this is not a solution.

3. -10 < 9, this is a solution.

4. 7 < 9, this is a solution.

Substitution Method:

When u = 10, 1 - 5(10) > -44

1 - 50 > -44

-49 > -44 | u = 10 is not a solution.

When u = 9, 1 - 5(9) > -44

1 - 45 > -44

-44 > -44 | u = 9 is not a solution.

When u = -10, 1 - 5(-10) > -44

1 + 50 > -44

51 > -44 | u = -10 is a solution.

When u = 7, 1 - 5(7) > -44

1 - 35 > -44

-34 > -44 | u = 7 is a solution.

As seen above, using both methods can achieve the same solution. So therefore, the answer is no, no, yes, and yes.

2х + Зу = 24<br> What is the x and y intercept
DochEvi [55]

Answer:

rearrange into y=mx+c

so it becomes

3y= -2x+24

y= (-2/3)x+24

substitute values for x

when x is 0

y is (-2/3)*0=0 +24 =24

<h2>y=24</h2>

for x intercept

0=(-2/3)*x+24

0-24=-2/3*x

-24/(-2/3)=x

<h2>x= -36</h2>

For what values of x is the graph of y equals negative 3 divided by the quantity 4 plus x concave downward?
Elena-2011 [213]

We are given our function as

y=\frac{-3}{x+4}

For finding concavity , firstly we will find second derivative

y'=\frac{d}{dx}\left(\frac{-3}{x+4}\right)

=-3\frac{d}{dx}\left(\frac{1}{x+4}\right)

=-3\left(-\frac{1}{\left(x+4\right)^2}\right)\cdot \:1

y'=\frac{3}{\left(x+4\right)^2}

now, we can find derivative again

y''=\frac{d}{dx}\left(\frac{3}{\left(x+4\right)^2}\right)

=3\frac{d}{dx}\left(\left(x+4\right)^{-2}\right)

y''=3\left(-\frac{2}{\left(x+4\right)^3}\right)\cdot \:1

y''=-\frac{6}{\left(x+4\right)^3}

now, we can know second derivative is undefined when denominator =0

so, we set denominator =0

and then we can solve for x

x+4=0

x=-4

now, we can draw a number line and locate x=-4

and then we can find sign of second derivative on each intervals

so,

Concave downward interval:

(-4,\infty)
