How do I simplify the following to "a+bi" form: (1+2i)^3

Mathematics

Answer:

Expand it.

(1+2i)^3 is equal to (1+2i)(1+2i)(1+2i).

Multiply everything out (being sure to multiply every term. (1+2i) * (1+2i) = 1+2i+2i+4i^2.

i is the square root of negative one, so i^2 is just -1. 1+2i+2i-4 is what you get from the first two, so now simplify that:

1-4 + 2i+2i = (-3+4i) and now multiply that by (1+2i):

(-3+4i) * (1+2i) = -3 - 6i +4i +8i^2.

Simplify again, and the answer is: -11-2i

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope this helps - really my only tip is don't spend time thinking about what i is, that just hurts your brain. Just remember that i^2 is equal to negative one, and treat it like regular multiplication and you will be fine.

Find slope of -2,3 and 4,-5
bulgar [2K]
-2,3 is (x1,y1) and (4,-5) is (x2,y2) so you do y2-y1/x2-x1

y2-y1 is -5-3 which is -8 and x2-x1 is 4-(-2) which is 6 so you get

-8/6= -4/3

How can we isolate the variable c
Vlada [557]

Well depending on the equation you look at both sides and eliminate everything from both using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Ex:

3c-4=7 first add the 4 because you use the opposite type of operation so you add it to 7 which gives you:

3c=11 next you have to divide to get it alone

3c/3=11/3

which gives you

c=   3.66666666667

Solve the problem. When going more than 38 miles per hour, the gas mileage of a certain car fits the model where x is the speed
Lubov Fominskaja [6]

Answer:

73 mph

Step-by-step explanation:

The question seems to be incomplete because the model is missing, I found a similar question with the addition of the model, so if we can solve it (see attached image).

We have that the model would be:

y = 43.81 - 0.395 * x

We need to solve for x, if y = 15

Replacing:

15 = 43.81 - 0.395 * x

Solving for x we have:

0.395 * x = 43.81 - 15

0.395 * x = 28.81

x = 28.81 / 0.395

x = 72.9

We are asked to round to the nearest number therefore x = 73.

The car will average 15 miles per gallon at the speed of 73 miles per hour.
