To square means to multiply something by itself. A variable is a letter such as x. So a squared variable=x×x=x^2.

#1 is C. only II and III (7 and 9 will work when substituted in for x)

#2 is B. x<4 is the highest you can choose of the choices given (x<5 would be, but its not given)

#3 is B.  x> -7.
-5x>35
x> 35/(-5)
x> -7

#4 is D.  X<(or equal to) 1. notice how the dot is filled and not a hole.
hole = < or >
filled dot= <(or equal to) or >(or equal to)

#5 is B because you see that the number line translates as x<2.
the only equation choice given that fits is B.

#6 is B.  X is somewhere in between the two numbers. not either way.

#7 is B.  6x+4< -20
6x< -20-4
6x< -24
x< -4

 #8 is B. the same as the original.

#9 is B. www the filled holes. and the x is in between, not outside.

#10 not sure. between the two graphs they all lie within. if you gave me one graph i would know.

#14  i think its D. since there will be an x and a y solution. therefore 2.

#15 is A, (4,0).   the x is 4, and there is not y.

#16 is B. (2,5)
x=12-2y
y= 5/2912-2y)
y=30-5y
6y=30
y=5

x=12-2y
x= 12-10
x= 2

#17 is C. 18 and 35.  18+35= 53.  18x2=36  36-1= 35  it checks off!

#18 is D, (3,2)
2x+3y=12
5x-3y=9
-----------
7x=21
x=3

6=3y=12
3y=6
y=2

#19 the wording is strange, or i just can't see it well enough.
