An equation is formed of two equal expressions. The number of small cups the customer bought is 10, while the number of large cups customer bought is 5.

<h3>What is an equation?</h3>

An equation is formed when two equal expressions are equated together with the help of an equal sign '='.

Let the number of small cup be represented by x, while the number of large cup be represented by y. Therefore, the total number of cups bought by the customer can be written as,

x + y = 15

Solving the equation for y,

y = 15 - x

The total amount that is paid by the customer can be written as,

3.50x + 6.80y = 69

3.50x + 6.80(15 - x) = 69

3.50x + 102 - 6.80x = 69

-3.3x  = 33

x = 10

Substitute the value of x in any one of the above equation,

x + y = 15

10 + y = 15

y = 5

Hence, the number of small cups the customer bought is 10, while the number of large cups customer bought is 5.

Answer:

C. √2 - 1

Step-by-step explanation:

If we draw a square from the center of the large circle to the center of one of the small circles, we can see that the sides of the square are equal to the radius of the small circle (see attached diagram)

Let r = the radius of the small circle

Using Pythagoras' Theorem a^2+b^2=c^2

(where a and b are the legs, and c is the hypotenuse, of a right triangle)

to find the diagonal of the square:

\implies r^2 + r^2 = c^2

\implies 2r^2 = c^2

\implies c=\sqrt{2r^2}

So the diagonal of the square = \sqrt{2r^2}

We are told that the radius of the large circle is 1:

⇒ Diagonal of square + r = 1

\implies \sqrt{2r^2}+r=1

\implies \sqrt{2r^2}=1-r

\implies 2r^2=(1-r)^2

\implies 2r^2=1-2r+r^2

\implies r^2+2r-1=0

Using the quadratic formula to calculate r:

\implies r=\dfrac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}

\implies r=\dfrac{-2\pm\sqrt{2^2-4(1)(-1)}}{2(1)}

\implies r=\dfrac{-2\pm\sqrt{8}}{2}

\implies r=-1\pm\sqrt{2}

As distance is positive, r=-1+\sqrt{2}=\sqrt{2}-1  only

3 mangoes and 2 oranges have a mass of 200gm and 4 mangoes and 4 oranges have a mass of 300gm. Find out the mass of each fruit.
mestny [16]
Start by defining your variables
let x be the mass of a single mango in gm
let y be the mass of a single orange in gm

now, write the question as a system of equations

3 mango and 2 orange have a mass of 200 gm
3x +2y = 200
4 mango and 4 orange have a mass of 300 gm
4x +4y = 300

now you have a system of equations
3x+2y =200
4x+4y =300

solve for x and y
