The values of y are 1 and 3

What is distance formula -

\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

x1 and y1 are x and y coordinates of a point.

similarly x2 and y2 are x and y coordinates of another point.

Explanation with steps -

As point P is equidistant from Q and R, the distances PQ and PR should be the same.

So, calculate distance PQ can be calculated from the above formula

The distance PQ is \sqrt{50}

now use this distance to calculate the unkown 'y'

\sqrt{50} = \sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

\sqrt{50} = \sqrt{(-10-(-3))^2+(y-2)^2}

\sqrt{50} = \sqrt{49+(y-2)^2}

Squaring both sides

50 = 49 + (y-2)^{2}

y^{2}-4y+3=0

On factorizing,

(y-1)(y-3)=0

Thus we get values of y to be 1 or 3

Whats the property? If -7x=14 then 14=-7x
timofeeve [1]

Answer:

the answer is commutative property

Step-by-step explanation:

commutative property is when both constants or variables don't change value when you move them from one side of the equal sign to another such as "a+b = b+a" or " a=b; b=a" both examples do not change value

You place the spring vertically with one end on the floor. You then drop a book of mass 1.50 kg onto it from a height of 0.900 m
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

The value of the maximum distance the spring will be compressed

x = 0.143 m= 14.3 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

Mass m = 1.5 kg

h = 0.9 m

k = 1500\frac{N}{m}

Since the book is released from a height h = 0.9 m above the top of the spring. so the total distance

y = h + x

Now in that case for the spring

mg y= \frac{1}{2} k x^{2}

mg(h +x) = \frac{1}{2} k x^{2}

By rearranging the above equation we get

k x^{2}  - 2mgx - 2mg h = 0

Put all the values in above equation we get

1500x^{2}  - 29.43 x - 26.48 = 0

By solving the above equation we get

x = 0.143 m= 14.3 cm

This is the value of the maximum distance the spring will be compressed.
