To be a function every x must have only one y as its partner. In this format (two ovals with numbers in them and arrows showing the pairs) If EVERY x has only ONE arrow pointing away from it, then it is a function. If any x has MORE THAN ONE arrow pointing away from it, at two different y-numbers, then it is NOT a function.
