4) 0.05 L of the stock solution must be taken.

5) The osmotic pressure would be 12.23 atm

Miscellaneous calculations

4) Using the dilution equation: m1v1=m2v2

   m1 = 1M, m2 = 0.1M, v2 = 0.5L

      v1 = m2v2/m1 = 0.1 x 0.5/1 = 0.05 L

5) Using the formula: osmotic pressure = icRT

Since sucrose does not ionize in water, i = 1

  C = 0.5

  R = 0.0821

  T = 298

  Osmotic pressure = 1 x 0.5 x 0.0821 x 298 = 12.23 atm

Maia says that both lines on this position vs time graph show acceleration. Is she correct? Why or why not? help me please i nee
Margarita [4]
Let's start by using the definition of acceleration. Acceleration is defined as the change in velocity over the change in time. In equation, that would be Δvelocity/Δtime. Based on the axes of the given graph, it shows the trend of position over time. So, the slope of the line and the curve shows the change of position over change of time, Δdistance/Δtime. In physics, this is the definition of speed or velocity. So, Maia is incorrect. Both curves show the speed or velocity of the object, and not acceleration. If the graph used a y-axis of velocity instead of position, then only at that instance, would be Maia be correct.

The difference between the two is, the straight line shows constant velocity while the curve line shows changing velocity.

Juanita dissolves 46 g of MgBr2 (molar mass: 184.11 g/mol) in 0.5 kg of distilled water. What is the molality of the solution?
irina [24]
Formula: molality, m = n solute / kg solvent

n solute = # of moles of solute = mass(g) / molar mass

Molar mass of Mg Br2 = 184.11 g/mol

m = [46g / 184.11 g/mol] / 0.5 kg = 0.50 mol/kg

When an atom of oxygen, atomic number 8, forms an ion what is the overall charge of that
lesya [120]

A. 1-

Explanation:

When an atom of oxygen with an atomic number of 8 forms an ion, the overall charge on it will be -1

  When atoms from ions, they either lose or gain electrons in the process.

If an atom loses electrons, they become positively charged.

When they gain electrons, they become negatively charged.

  An atom is made up of three fundamental particles;

  Protons the positively charged particles

  Electrons are negatively charged

  Neutrons do not carry any charges.

In a neutral atom, the number of protons and electrons are the same

When an atom gains electrons, the number of electrons in it increases and it becomes negatively charged.

When they lose electrons, the number of protons is more and they become positively charged.

Oxygen atoms prefers to gain electrons in order to have a complete octet. When they gain an electron;

     With the atomic number of 8:

                       Number of proton = 8

                       Number of electrons = 9

             Charge = 8-9 = -1

We can represent this as O¹⁻

Ideally, oxygen prefers to gain two electrons to mimic the structure of the noble gas Neon.

Explain why air is not a good conductor of heat.
Masja [62]
In a gas molecules have to scatter off molecules to exchange energy in larger distances, so the probability of transfer is much smaller. Air is a bad conductor because, to conduct heat current molecules should absorb heat and transmit it to neighbor by vibrating.
