True. Immediately after the switch is closed, current only flows through the capacitor and not through the resistor. This is because the resistor offers resistance to the current flow while the capacitor acts as a short in the circuit.

What is a RC circuit?

Consider the circuit diagram shown below. This circuit is known as an RC circuit. In an RC circuit:

  • The capacitor C is connected in parallel with resistor R and potential V.
  • When the switch is kept open, i.e. no potential is applied to the circuit for an extended period of time, the charge stored in the capacitor dissipates.
  • This leads to the current to stop flowing thorough the other components of the circuit.
  • Thus, when potential is applied across the capacitor (uncharged), the capacitor initially behaves as a closed wire and offers no resistance as the current flows through it whilst charging it.
  • Once the capacitor has been charged for a long period of time, it acts as a break in the circuit wherein no current can flow through it.
  • Now, when a switch is placed in the circuit, after the switch has been kept open for a long time, closing it causes the relative current and potential in the circuit to depend upon the state of charge in the capacitor at that instant.

Supposing that the capacitor has been kept uncharged for a long period of time, at this instant when the switch is closed, only the current flows through the capacitor and not through the resistor.

This is because the resistor offers resistance to current flow while the capacitor acts as a short in the circuit.

The critical angle for a certain air-liquid surface is 47.7°. What is the index of refraction of the liquid? Round to the neares
KengaRu [80]

Answer:

The index of refraction of the liquid is 1.35.

Explanation:

It is given that,

Critical angle for a certain air-liquid surface, \theta_1=47.7^{\circ}

Let n₁ is the refractive index of liquid and n₂ is the refractive index of air, n₂ =1

Using Snell's law for air liquid interface as :

n_1\ sin\theta_1=n_2\ sin(90)

n_1\ sin(47.7)=1

n_1=\dfrac{1}{sin(47.7)}

n_1=1.35

So, the index of refraction of the liquid is 1.35. Hence, this is the required solution.

Consider horizontal parallel plates with a fixed potential difference. The upper plate has a voltage difference of 30 V with the
BlackZzzverrR [31]

relation between potential difference and electric field is given as

E . d = \Delta V

so here we know that

d = 3 cm

\Delta V = 30 V

E \times 0.03 = 30

E = 1000 N/C

So now when plates are separated to 4 cm distance carefully

the potential difference between them will change but the electric field between them will remain constant

So at distance of 4 cm also the electric field will be E = 1000 N/C

If we say that one quantity is directly proportional to another quantity, does this mean that they are equal to each other?
Marina CMI [18]

Answer:

Explanation:

It doesn't mean it equal to each other.  lets say x is directly proportional to y. Here, if something happens to x then, y will do the same thing. for example, if x increases, then y also increases. similarly, if x decreases, then y also decreases. therefore, x is something or lets say it is a major factor that decides the fate of y.
