A civil engineer is designing a public parking lot for the new town hall. The number of cars in each row should be six less than
Alexandra [31]
The new parking lot must hold twice as many cars as the previous parking lot. The previous parking lot could hold 56 cars. So this means the new parking lot must hold 2 x 56 = 112 cars

Let y represent the number of cars in each row, and x be the number of total rows in the parking lot. Since the number of cars in each row must be 6 less than the number of rows, we can write the equation as:

y = x - 6             (1)

The product of cars in each row and the number of rows will give the total number of cars. So we can write the equation as:

xy = 112           (2)

Using the above two equations, the civil engineer can find the number of rows he should include in the new parking lot.

Using the value of y from equation 1 to 2, we get:

x(x - 6) = 112       (3)

This equation is only in terms of x, i.e. the number of rows and can be directly solved to find the number of rows that must in new parking lot.

Given the sequence 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, ..., which term is 59? (Hint: find n.)
____ [38]
N = 3  ( the next number is 3 plus the previous number
 sequence formula = an = 3(n-1) +2

so for term the term that =59

59 = 3(n-1) +2

distribute:
59 = 3n -3+2

59 = 3n -1

60 = 3n
n = 60/3
n = 20

59 is the 20th term

Why do you multiply by a power of 10 when writing a repeating decimal as a rational number
stira [4]
1.28 = 128 * 10^-2

128 * (1/10^2)

128 / 10^2

128 / 100

1.28

Because, it's literally the same thing mathematically if you worked it out. Though, as I'm sure you're aware, it's just a much shorter and cleaner way of writing out large or small numbers.

How do i solve 4m^2+3m-1=0 using the quadratic formula
elixir [45]
Quadratic formulat is used when a^2+bx+c=0 x= \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}   }{2a} 4m^2+3m-1=0 a=4 b=3 c=-1 input x= \frac{-3+/- \sqrt{3^{2}-4(4)(-1)}   }{2(4)} x= \frac{-3+/- \sqrt{9+16}   }{8} x= \frac{-3+/- \sqrt{25}   }{8} x= \frac{-3+/-5  }{8} x= \frac{-8}{8} or \frac{2}{8} x=-1 or 1/4
