By applying the definition of <em>exponential</em> function, we find that the function f(x) = 3 · 2ˣ match with the graph of the picture. (Correct choice: A)

<h3>What is the equation behind the exponential curve seen in the graph?</h3>

In this question we have the graph of a <em>exponential</em> function, whose expression have to be found based on the definition of <em>exponential</em> function:

y = a · bˣ      (1)

Where:

  • a - Initial value of the exponetial function.
  • b - Base of the exponential function.
  • x - Independent variable
  • y - Dependent variable

Now we find the values for a and b:

Initial value (x = 0, y = 3)

3 = a · b⁰

a = 3

Base of the exponential function (x = 1, a = 3, y = 6)

6 = 3 · a

a = 6 / 3

a = 2

By applying the definition of <em>exponential</em> function, we find that the function f(x) = 3 · 2ˣ match with the graph of the picture. (Correct choice: A)

So to find how many apples each student picked, first, you have to solve for M (the variable I'm using to represent the # of apples Matteo picked). So you have to put this word problem into an equation. The problem gives you how many apples each kid picked.

Addie (A) = 20 less than Matteo (M-20)

Khan (K) = 50 more than Matteo (M+50)

Brooke (B) = Twice as many as Matteo (2M)

So now that we know how much each kid picked (variable form), you have to put it into the equation. We know that the total was 355 apples. So you know your sum is 355. To set up the equation, you put in the numbers and variables from above.

355= (M+50) + 2(M) + (M-20)

Just a reminder,
K= (M+50) B= 2(M) and A= (M-20)

Now, we first have to combine numbers and variables.

So take away the parentheses. It should look like this:
355= M+50+M+M+M-20

Once they are all combined, it should look like this:
355= 4M +30

To solve for 4M, subtract 30 from both sides.

You should get:
325=4M

To get M, divide both sides by 4, you should get:
81.25=M

To find what each student got, plug M in and solve.

Khan got 131.25 apples.

Addie got 61.25 apples.

and

Brooke got 162.5 apples.

*Note, the numbers may sound weird, but they add up to 355.

Hope this helped!

Answer:

It would be B. Fuction 1 has the larger maximum at (4,1)

Step-by-step explanation:

because the maximum point for Fuction 1 is at (4,1) becuase that the highest point/vertex it goes.

You can use a graph to identify the vertex or you can find the minimum or maximum value algebraically by using the formula x = -b / 2a. This formula will give you the x-coordinate of the vertex. Simply replace the x in your original equation with the value of the x-coordinate and then solve for y.
