The value of x is 5, if a, b, and c are collinear points.

According to the given question.

a, b, and c are collinear points.

Which means points a, b, and c both lie in a same line.

b is between a nd c .

Also, ab = 12

bc = 5x - 2

and ac = 3x + 20

Since, b lies in between a and c

Therefore,

ab + bc = ac

12 + 5x - 2 = 3x + 20

⇒ 10 + 5x = 3x + 20

⇒ 5x - 3x = 20 - 10

⇒ 2x = 10

⇒ x = 10/ 2

⇒ x = 5

Therefore, the value of x is 5.

Slope of the line that contains (-8,2) , (7,-4)
Nezavi [6.7K]

Answer:

\mathsf{slope=-\dfrac25}

Step-by-step explanation:

\mathsf{let \ (x_1,y_1)=(-8,2)}

\mathsf{let \ (x_2,y_2)=(7,-4)}

\mathsf{slope=\dfrac{y_2-y_1}{x_2-x_1}}

\implies \mathsf{slope=\dfrac{-4-2}{7--8}=-\dfrac25}

A sno-cone machine priced at $139 is on sale for 20% off. What is the price of the sno-cone machine after the discount? *
lawyer [7]
So percents are just written as 20% = 0.2 so keep that in mind

139 divided by 0.2 is 95 , which would be the price after the discount :)

hope this helps!

Solve x^2-12x+5=0 using the completing the square method
djyliett [7]

Answer:

x= 6 ± √31

Step-by-step explanation:

x^2-12x=-5

x^2 -12x +36= -5 +36

(x -6)^2= 31

√(x -6)^2= ±√31

(x-6)= ±√31

x= 6 ± √31

If someone could please walk me through on how to answer this.
Elis [28]

To isolate c means to separate it completely on one side of the equals sign.

To isolate variables, you apply opposite operations.

In E = mc², m and c are being multiplied together. To separate them, you divide by the variable you want to get rid of. However, you must do this to both sides of the equation always. Whatever you do to one side of the equation you must do to the other side as well. This is so the equation remains true.

Since we want to isolate c, we'll start by dividing both sides by m.

E = mc²

E/m = mc²/m

E/m = c²  --  The m's cancel as 1

Now we have c squared. The opposite of squaring something is taking its square root. Take the square root of each side.

E/m = c²

√(E/m) = √(c²)

√(E/m) = c  --  Opposite operations cancel each other out

And you've isolated c!

Answer:

c = √(E/m)
