In collecting a dermal puncture specimen into a microcollection container, tapping the container on a hard surface is recommended as it will allow the blood to mix with the anticoagulant, if present.

What is dermal puncture?

  • A dermal (skin) puncture may be required when a venipuncture cannot be performed or may be the option of choice for some point-of-care test procedures.
  • The puncture is quick and standardized for puncture depth.
  • The procedure takes longer to complete. This delay in collection of the blood specimen could result in hemolysis or clotting of the blood or tissue fluid contamination of the specimen and specimen rejection by the laboratory.
  • The dermal puncture minimizes the amount of blood taken from the patient. This will be important to consider, especially with infants in an intensive care nursery.
  • Some laboratory tests require larger amounts of blood for testing; in these cases, capillary collection is not an option.
  • If a patient is dehydrated or has poor peripheral circulation, an adequate blood collection from a dermal puncture may not be possible.
  • When a dermal puncture is performed it should be noted on the requisition. The concentration of glucose may be higher in blood obtained by dermal puncture, and the concentrations of sodium, total protein, and calcium may be lower.

Which form of water motion commonly causes natural disasters along shorelines
lesya [120]

Answer:

water motion that is non-linear in nature can cause natural disasters on shorelines.

Explanation:

these natural disasters could be on a small scale or a large scale depending on the strength of that movement of water. Rip currents and storm surges (uncommon) are two different types of hazards that can occur on the coast. In addition, a more dangerous case is a tsunami - which may be triggered by an earthquake - these are ocean waves traveling at a very high speed.

Hope that answers the question. Have a great day!
