Find lim f(x) if f(x) x->5 = { -x² -1, x #5 -3, x=5

Given

f(x) = \begin{cases} -x^2 - 1 & \text{if }x \neq 5 \\ -3 & \text{if }x=5 \end{cases}

we have

\displaystyle \lim_{x\to5} f(x) = \lim_{x\to5} (-x^2-1) = -5^2-1 = \boxed{-26}

since we are <em>approaching</em> x=5, so effectively x\neq 5 and we use the definition of f(x) under that condition.

What could be the ordered pairs representing vertices C and D of quadrilateral abcd so that the new fire department is congruent
ohaa [14]
Given that <span>a city grid of Anytown, USA is shown on the grid below. The fire department is represented by quadrilateral RSTU. Another fire department is opening in a different part of the city to maximize fire protection. The size of the new department's property must be congruent to the older department. Vertices A and B are plotted on the grid to represent two vertices of the new fire department quadrilateral ABCD.

Map of Anytown; the line y equals 7 is Main Road; the line y equals 3 is Rose Lane; the line y equals negative 1 is Crystal Avenue; the line x equals negative 4 is Brick Street; the diagonal line is Dogwood Drive; Old Fire Department forms quadrilateral with ordered pairs R at negative 4, 7, S at negative 1, 7; T at negative 1, 3; U at negative 4, 3; A is at 4, negative 1 and B is at 1, negative 1

Recall that t</span><span>wo shapes are said to be congruent if the lengths of the sides and the angles are the same.

For quadrilateral RSTU to be congruent to quadrilateral ABCD, then RS = AB, RU = AD, ST = BC and TU = CD

Also, the figure ABCD is a result of a rigid body translation of the figure RSTU.

Given that R is at point (-4, 7) and A is at point (4, -1), also given that S is at point (-1, 7) and B is at point (1, -1).

It can be seen that points AB is a result of refrecting points RS across the y-axis and then shifting the resulting points down by 8 units.

Thus, given point T as (-1, 3) and point U as (-4, 3), refrection of points T and U across the y-axis will result in points (1, 3) and (4, 3), then shifting the resulting points down by 8 units will result to points (1, -5) and (4, -5)

Therefore, the ordered pairs representing vertices C and D of quadrilateral ABCD so that the new fire department is congruent to the old fire department are C(1, -5) and D(4, -5).</span>

Given the recursive formula for an arithmetic sequence find the common difference and the 52nd term
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

              Common difference(d)                  a_{52}

(21)                   -10                                          -548

(22)                   -7                                          -323

(23)                    10                                           547

(24)                   -100                                       -5118

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the common difference be denoted by 'd'.

Also the nth difference of an arithmetic sequence is given by: a_{n}=a_{1}+(n-1)\times d

(21)

We are given a recursive formula as:

a_{n}=a_{n-1}-10

The first term is given by:

a_{1}=-38

The common difference for an arithmetic sequence is given by:

a_{n}-a_{n-1}

Hence, here we have the common difference as:

d=-10

The nth term of an arithmetic sequence is given by:

a_{n}=a_{1}+(n-1)\times d

Here a_{1}=-38 and d=-10.

Hence, a_{52}=-38+(52-1)\times (-10)

Hence, a_{52}=-548

(22)

a_{n}=a_{n-1}-7

a_{1}=34

The common difference for an arithmetic sequence is given by:

a_{n}-a_{n-1}

Hence, here we have the common difference as:

d=-7

Here a_{1}=34 and d=-7.

Hence, a_{52}=34+(52-1)\times (-7)

Hence, a_{52}=-323

(23)

a_{n}=a_{n-1}+10

a_{1}=37

The common difference for an arithmetic sequence is given by:

a_{n}-a_{n-1}

Hence, here we have the common difference as:

d=10

Here a_{1}=37 and d=10.

Hence, a_{52}=37+(52-1)\times (10)

Hence, a_{52}=547

(24)

a_{n}=a_{n-1}-100

a_{1}=-18

The common difference for an arithmetic sequence is given by:

a_{n}-a_{n-1}

Hence, here we have the common difference as:

d=-100

Here a_{1}=-18 and d=-100.

Hence, a_{52}=-18+(52-1)\times (-100)

Hence, a_{52}=-5118

3. The graph of a polynomial function is
ra1l [238]

9514 1404 393

Answer:

  A. The degree of the polynomial is even.

Step-by-step explanation:

The end behavior is the same in both directions (for -x and for +x, y → ∞), so the degree of the polynomial is even.

__

The constant term is the y-intercept. It is not an integer, so cannot be said to be even or odd.
