Mercury's high freezing point (-40oC) prevents it from measuring very low temperatures. Because mercury is poisonous, it is dangerous if its tube is broken. Its cost is really expensive.

Mercury has the advantage of being the only element in a liquid state at ambient temperature. Because of its high coefficient of expansion, it is utilized in thermometers.

Mercury cells are what kind of battery?

The non-rechargeable electrochemical battery known as a mercury battery, also known as a mercuric oxide battery or mercury cell, is a primary cell. Zinc and mercury oxide electrodes react with an alkaline electrolyte in mercury batteries.

Why did the mercury battery lose some of its appeals?

The popularity of the mercury battery decreased as a result of this action. The Mercury cell is a form of dry cell that uses potassium hydroxide as an electrolyte, zinc as the anode, and mercuric oxide as the cathode.
