Less than one-quarter (24%) of children 6 to 17 years of age participate in 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

According to the most current Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS) study, just 23.2% of high school students in the United States engaged in physical activity for at least 60 minutes each day. The YRBSS is a twice-yearly survey of high school students' self-reported health habits that is conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Overall, according to a CDC analysis, "the prevalence of behaviors that promote physical activity for health was low in 2019 and either fell or stayed the same during the preceding 10 years." Particularly, between 2011 and 2019, a considerable reduction was seen in the percentage of pupils achieving the criteria for physical exercise.
