Your dog gives a range of behaviors while he is awake and waits for your response. For instance, if you patted, verbally praised, or gave your dog a cookie after he sat respectfully in front of you, the action of sitting politely will immediately become more frequent. Your response taught the dog that sitting well is incredibly rewarding.
