Diana read 6 English books and 32 French books in 1996.

For given question,

Let the number of English books = x

And the number of French books = y

In 1995 Diana read 10 English books and 7 French books.

⇒ x = 10 and y = 7

In 1996, she read twice as many French books as English books.

So, we get an equation,

⇒ y = 2x

Also, 60% of the books that she read during the 2 years were French

Let m be the total number of books she read in 2 years.

⇒ y = 60 percent of m

⇒ y = 0.6(m)         ............(i)

and x = 0.4(m)

We don't know the exact amount of books read in 1996.

m = 10 + 7 +x +2x

m = 17 + 3x

We can write equation (i) as,

⇒ 0.6(m) = 7 + 2x

⇒ 0.6(17 + 3x) = 7 + 2x

⇒ 10.2 + 1.8x = 7 + 2x

⇒ 10.2 - 7 = 2x - 1.8x

⇒ 3.2 = 0.2x

⇒ 3.2/0.2 = x

⇒ 16 = x

So, she read 16 English books

And 16 × 2 = 32 French books

Total books: 16+32= 48 books in 1996

Therefore, Diana read 6 English books and 32 French books in 1996.

Rachel buys 1 gallon of milk. Her sister Abby uses 1 1 2 quarts of the milk in a recipe. Then her mother uses 3 cups of the milk
mrs_skeptik [129]

1 Gallon is equal to 4 Quarts.

4-1\frac{1}{2} =2\frac{1}{2}

2\frac{1}{2} Quarts is equal to 10 Cups.

10-3=7

There are 7 Cups left.

7 Cups is equal to 56 Fluid Ounces.

Therefore, the answer is B.
