The combination of the cathode reduction potential and the anode oxidation potential is known as the <u>electro-chemical shell.</u>

The anode or cathode is the electrode in both types of electrochemical cells where the oxidation, as well as reduction halves of reactions, take place.

The standard reduction potential is found by deducting the standard reduction potential again for the such reaction occurring at the cathode again from the standard reduction potential for the reaction that occurs at the anode. Because oxidation would be the opposite of reduction, the minus sign was required.

Therefore, the combination of the cathode reduction potential and the anode oxidation potential is known as the <u>electro-chemical shell.</u>
