The volume of the liquid is unchanged while the volume of the gas decreases.

What distinguishes a liquid from a gas?

A state of a substance known as the liquid has a known volume but no defined shape. A condition of a substance known as a gas lacks a fixed shape or volume. Either composite molecules composed of a range of atoms or one type of atom make up gases. On Earth, items can be found in four different fundamental states of matter: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma.

What causes liquids to have a fixed volume?

Because of molecular mobility, liquids have a constant and definite volume. As the molecules travel to fill the space, liquids adopt the shape of the storage vessel. They are able to flow and have no distinct shape. Since liquids can flow, they are also referred to as "fluids." Liquids lack hardness.

maks197457 [2]
A protective layer composed of overlapping cells, like fish scales or roof tiles, but facing downwards. The outer cuticle holds your hair in your hair follicle by means of a Velcro-like bond. It also minimizes the movement of water (moisture) in and out of the underlying cortex.
