Insulin decreases blood glucose levels.

Insulin is secreted by the beta cells, which are part of the Islets of Langerhans. Three features of insulin exist:

  1. The onset is the amount of time before insulin enters the system and starts reducing blood sugar.
  2. When insulin is most effective at lowering blood sugar, this is known as peak period.
  3. Duration refers to how long insulin keeps lowering blood sugar.

Thus, the important information nurse should give client is that insulin decrease the blood sugar level.
