Hamlet was thinking to kill his uncle, at the sacred place while he is praying. so, the The ironic about Hamlet not killing Claudius is that the Claudius was not praying genuinely.  he is just performing the act of praying and he is vey far away from the prayer. and the hamlet did not know about that. the hamlet is always thought about the aftermath. this was the hamlet's problem. when hamlet approaches to Claudius he was inclined to kil him. but the excessive thinking prevent him to do that.
