Used up amount = 1/4th gallon

The amount left, is the difference between the two.

That would be 1/4th subtracted from 8.

Or,

8-\frac{1}{4}

Taking common denominator, we solve:

\begin{gathered} 8-\frac{1}{4} \\ =\frac{8(4)-1}{4} \\ =\frac{32-1}{4} \\ =\frac{31}{4} \\ =7\frac{3}{4}\text{ gallons} \end{gathered}

let A be there point (x1,y1), our (2,3)

plug into the formula to get

(-2,1)=( (2+x²)/2, (3+y2)/2 )
so -2=(2+x2)/2 and 1=(3+y2)/2



x2=-6 and y2=-1
answer is B

x+9 is the tenth number.  x+9 = 10, so x = 9.

Think of it this way:  there are 10 consecutive numbers, and the last one is 10.

Working backwards, we get the sequence 10, 9, ... 3, 2, 1.

The sum of such an arith sequence is equal to the count of the numbers times the average of the first and last terms:
