ax^2+bx+c=0

are

\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{(-b)^2-4ac}}{2a}.

Now, in the given equation, a=-1 ,b=-6, and c= 8. Therefore, the solutions to the equation are:

x=\frac{6\pm\sqrt{36+32}}{-2}.

Simplifying the above result, we get:

x=-3\pm(-1)\sqrt{17}.

Answer:

\begin{gathered} x_1=-3+\sqrt{17,} \\ x_2=-3-\sqrt{17}. \end{gathered}
