The atomic number is the total number of protons of an atom, while the mass number is the total number of its protons and neutrons.

Atomic Number and Mass Number

An atom has properties and masses that are unique to each other. With the discovery of the particles that make up the atom known as atomic number (Z) and mass number (A).

ᵃz X

A = mass number

Z = atomic number

X = element symbol

The atomic number (Z) indicates the number of protons (positive charge) or the number of electrons in the atom. This atomic number is a characteristic of an element. Because the atom is neutral, the number of protons equals the number of electrons, so the atomic number also indicates the number of electrons.

The mass number is usually given the symbol A. This mass number is used to determine the number of nucleons in an atom of an element. The nucleon itself is a particle that makes up the atomic nucleus consisting of protons and neutrons.

What is an example of a microorganism acting in a harmful way? A) Bacteria aiding digestion. B) Bacteria causing strep throat. C
vaieri [72.5K]
Not very often, but sometimes, the language gives away the question. This is one such instance.

Look at A. Is digestion a bad thing? It shouldn't be. Otherwise you run marathons with gobs of food not being broken down and providing energy.
Not A.

Not C. Do you like yogurt? If you don't do you know someone who does? Is yogurt for you/them a bad thing. Bacteria here are good. Again, not C.

Not D. Waste is bad. It's a problem. Getting rid of it is good. Again not D.

There's only one left.
B <<<< answer. Who would like to get strep throat. It's a fate for your worst enemy.

B <<<< answer.

The nuclear mass of 56fe is 55.9207 amu. calculate the binding energy per nucleon for 56fe.
Aneli [31]

Fe (iron) has 26 protons,30 neutrons and 26 electrons. In order to calculate the binding energy, first you need to find the total mass of all particles in the nucleus:

26 x mass of proton + 30 x mass of neutron ( all in a.m.u.) = say "m"

Mass defect is m- 55.9207 amu, then convert it into grams and put in equation E = mc2 to get binding energy of Fe.

Divide it by number of nucleons to get binding energy per nucleon.

4. The following occurs when heat energy is removed: Gas --A-> Liquid-B--> Solid.
Misha Larkins [42]

Answer: The phase change for A and B respectively is condensation, freezing.

Explanation:

A process in which gaseous state of a substance converts into liquid state is called condensation.

For example, conversion of steam into water.

A process in which liquid state of a substance converts into solid state is called freezing.

For example, conversion of liquid water into ice.

Thus, we can conclude that the phase change for A and B respectively is condensation and freezing.
