According to the Supremacy Clause of Article 6 in the United States Constitution, if a state law goes against the Constitution, then the state law would be overturned and made null and void. All the laws that are passed by the Federal government would be treated as Supreme law of the land. It is globally accepted in the United States that the Constitution is the ultimate and supreme in regards to the laws of the land. The laws made by the federal Government would be treated as supreme unless it violates the rules laid down by the Constitution of United States. The United Supreme Court has the power to decide if the law is in violation of the Constitution or not.

Did Hoover handle the Bonus Army march well? Use primary and secondary sources to explain why or why not.
Liula [17]

Hoover did not handle the Bonus Army well.

The Bonus Army was a group of 43 thousand protestors - WWI veterans and their families - who gathered in Washington DC to demand payment for their service certificates.

President Hoover did not attempt to negotiate with the protestors, first, he ordered to have them removed from government’s property and later he ordered to the Army to clear the marcher’s campsite.

To do so, infantry and cavalry was used and additionally, six tanks.

Public opinion on Hoover’s actions was strong, newspapers and newsreels - that were popular at the time - showed images of the violence perpetrated on soldiers and their families. This was considered one of the strongest factors that influenced his lost at elections to Roosevelt.
