Dr. Bad has developed a way to damage the ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABC transporter) on a cell. The cell's ABC transport

er can no longer bind and use ATP when it's transporting substances.
Which of the following statements best describes how this damage would effect the transport of substances in the affected cell?

(Choice A)
Substances at a low concentration outside the cell would be more rapidly transported into the cell, where there is a high concentration.

(Choice B)
Substances at a high concentration outside the cell would not be transported into the cell, where there is a low concentration.

(Choice C)
Equilibrium would be established between all substances inside and outside of the cell.

(Choice D)
Substances at a low concentration outside the cell would not be transported into the cell, where there is a high concentration.

The answer is; Choice D

ABC transporters are transmembrane proteins that enable active transportation of substances across the cell membrane. The protein is important in the movement of substances against their concentration gradient using ATP energy. ATP binding causes it to change conformation and bind the molecule being transported.

What happens during the light reaction of photosynthesis?.
Genrish500 [490]

Answer:

Chlorophyll absorbs the red and blue segment of the white light and photosynthesis occurs most efficiently at these wavelengths.

When the light falls on the plant, the chlorophyll pigment absorbs this light and electrons in it gets excited.

This process occurs in a complex protein system which is collectively called as a photosystem.

The illustration below shows the steps of meiosis I. What is the step that is labeled D? metaphase I metaphase II telophase II t
WITCHER [35]

The right answer is metaphase II.

The process is performed in two nuclear and cytoplasmic divisions, called first and second meiotic division or simply meiosis I and meiosis II. Both include prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. First division prophase is long and consists of 5 stages: leptotene, zygotene, pachytene, diplotene, and diakinesis. It is at this point that genetic recombination takes place at the level of chiasmus.

During meiosis I, the members of each homologous pair of chromosomes are paired during prophase, forming bivalents. During this phase, a protein structure, called synaptonemal complex form, allows recombination between homologous chromosomes. Subsequently, a large condensation of the bivalent chromosomes occurs and go to the metaphase plate during the first metaphase, resulting in the migration of n chromosomes to each of the poles during the first anaphase. This reduction division is responsible for maintaining the number of chromosomes characteristic of each species.

In meiosis II, as in mitosis, the sister chromatids comprising each chromosome are separated and distributed between the nuclei of the daughter cells. Between these two successive steps, there is no DNA replication. The maturation of the daughter cells will result in the gametes.
