Hypothalamus is the point of synthesis of the hormones secreted by the posterior pituitary gland. This includes oxytocin (released from the paraventriclular nucleus of the hypothalamus and is responsible for stimulation of contractions during labor pain ), and antidiuretic hormone (released from supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus and is responsible for water reabsorption by kidneys).
